Maternity Photography Session

Teresa Carter Photography loves that she can be a part in capturing such a wonderful experience of pregnancy. Pregnancy is such an amazing experience that needs to be captured. In just a few months or weeks,.. or even days, your little one or maybe ones will arrive to join the whole family! Isn't that one of the most exciting feeling of anticipation you ever felt?
Teresa usually recommends contacting her as early as your first or second trimester to ensure that she can be available for your maternity photography session. Most of her pregnancy portrait clients will want Teresa to photograph their newborns too. After birth, you would like to capture that first 2 weeks of your newborn, if possible. During those days, your newborn still sleeps a lot and still has the natural curl and sweetness that you want to capture. Teresa will keep her time open around your due date. Most of her weekday appointments are limited to newborns and maternity photography sessions.
Why capture pregnancy? Well, why not? How will a woman ever forget or want to forget the amazing time of pregnancy? There might be a lot of challenges during the long nine months of pregnancy, but it's always worth the time and wait. I myself wish I had my photos taken during my 3 pregnancies. I regret that I never thought of that. I have about 2 photographs taken by my husband during my second pregnancy but I wish I had some professional photogaphs taken too.
As a pregnant woman, you should feel very special and gifted. Maybe you feel unattractive that you don't even want to think of your photographs taken. Or maybe you are worried your stretch marks will look horrible in photogaphs. Don't worry, you're not alone. Most pregnant women feel that way because of hormonal imbalance. Though in reality most women actually are really blooming during pregnancy. You skin get radiant, you feel special because of the attention given to you and you are full of love and anticipation for your coming newborn.
Let me capture your pregnancy and make them a work of art. I don't just love photography, but I also love editing them to perfection. With maternity photos, I usually spend more time perfecting them because they are truly a unique a work of art, just like a photo of a very tiny newborn. The nice shape of the belly, the stretched skin, the pregnancy line, the enlarged breasts getting ready for breast feeding and of course, the radiant face of the soon mother-to-be, those are what I love about pregnancy photographs. You do not want these memories to fade. They are too special. Capture this special moment of your life. Isn't it great to be able to show your child what you looked like during pregnancy and where he or she came from?

FAQs
When should I schedule my maternity session?
I generally schedule maternity sessions between the 32nd and 36th weeks. We don't want to wait too late because you'll never know when the baby will actually come. Besides most pregnant women feel very uncomfortable during their last 2 to 3 weeks of pregnancy. We also don't want to do it too early as you want to have a big enough belly to show in your photos.
I recommend to call me at least before you are 30 weeks so you can be certain that we can fit you in my schedule.
Where will we do the session?
I usually do maternity photography sessions indoors using my backdrops and portable lighting. Natural lighing will be nice on some photos but I usually use my lights to go with the natural light that comes inside the house. However, if you wish and weather permitting, we can also do your maternity shots outdoors at your favorite park, or even at the beach, especially during summer times. It is very important to do your maternity portrait session in an environment where you are comfortable to do some posings where you want to show intimacy with your family.
What should I wear?
Try a variety of outfits during your session. Khakis, jeans, flowing skirt, black and white tops, buttoned shirt, or even a formal red or black tight fitting dress are some of my recommendations. Like the photo above, try something that shows your belly or even just the from of it. Wear things that you are comfortable with.
I will also provide some wraps that you might want to try. Before your session, we will talk more about clothing that will work best for maternity portraits and other details.
Should I try nude poses?
Do it only if you are comfortable with it. Some pregnant women are fine to be photographed naked or with minimal cover such as a fabric or wrap. In some nude or partially nude posings, I don't have to show the face especially if requested by my client. It's best that before the session, you let me know your ideas about the session. My nude photos are done tastefully but you can always decide if you want to be totally covered in all photos or you can try some posing showing some partial nudity. Maternity photography is very different. A woman can be nude or partially nude but it she still looks modest because people looking at the photographs do not look at her as being nude but as someone who is carrying a new life to bring out to the world very soon.
Can I include my husband or children in the session?
Yes! With maternity sessions, we can include up to 3 members. I really recommend having some photos that include your family. It's always important to capture that very amazing moment of your life with the most special people.
