Newborn Photography Session

SEE SAMPLE SESSION

As a Portland Oregon newborn and baby photographer, I really enjoy my job! I love being a part of each of my client's family to capture this changing moment of their life. I particularly love newborn photography during the first 2 weeks from birth. At this time, newborns are very tiny and still have the curl that is so amazing to capture and remember forever. These newborn moments are too important yet they last only for a very short time that's why you have to capture them in photographs! Your tiny newborn will grow fast as each day passes… to a little baby… then a toddler! Yet the memories of each stage are still there if captured in photographs. You can of course do some photograph taking on your own, but it's always nice to hire a professional photographer. Not only do you get professional portraits but it's always nice to be together in the photographs with your newborn or family. That's where I come in! Let me capture the love and relationship in your family and make an art out of those portraits.

It is always best to contact me during your pregnancy even if you are not planning to have your pregnancy portraits (though you might change your mind still). Why? Because after birth, you will be too busy to look for a photographer. Your newborn will occupy almost all your time. You want to make sure that you have professional photographs of your newborn especially during the first 2 weeks. It is best to sign up for a first baby plan which covers 3 to 4 sessions within the first year of your baby's life. In that case, you will be able to document several stages of your baby's life. Babies grow very fast during their first year and you want to see how they change as months pass by.

FAQs

When should I book and/or schedule my newborn session?

Newborn photography sessions are to be scheduled within the first 2 weeks of the newborn's life. We want to be able to capture the natural curl of a very tiny baby. During that time, newborns are still very sleepy. I recommend that you contact me for a newborn session when you are still pregnant. Please do not wait near your due date because you're not sure when your newborn will come! Once you give birth, contact me as soon as possible so I can see you within the first 2 weeks. I only accept a limited number of bookings to make sure I can accomodate the newborn sessions which I give most priority.

Though the best time for a newborn session is within the first 2 weeks after birth, it can be rescheduled a little later due to some circumstances such as if your baby has to stay longer in the hospital.

Where will we do the newborn session?

All of sessions are done on location. Newborn sessions are mostly at the home of the client where the family is most comfortable. Not to worry if your house is messy or if your house is a little cluttered. I am sure that after giving birth, you don't have a lot of time to tae care of anything else in the house. I will bring my portable studio with me. I have several backdrops and props to use. We might have to move some furniture to create the space. I usually need at least 9 x 13 square feet of space when I set a back drop. Believe me that I have worked on a realy small apartment and everything just worked out fine. I will want to be able to take photos with and without backdrop. I will look for some areas in your home which I think will look nice in photographs. Your newborn's room might be ideal for some photographs too. Variety is always great!

How long will the session last?

Newborn sessions can be unpredictable and challenging. That's why it helps a lot when you do it in the comfort of your own home rather than going to a studio. With me coming to your home, you won't be rushed. I have all my 2 to 4 hours with your family and we will have a lot of time for feeding, cuddling, changing and relaxing in between the photo shots. Please make sure that you are free for at least 3 to 4 hours on the date of your newborn session. Try not to plan your photography session during a day when you have a doctor appointment, or any family event to take care of.

What if my newborn is cranky during the session?

With the session not rushed and done at the comfort fo your own home, I am almost sure we can find some moments where your baby will calm down and hopefully sleep during the session. Usually after feeding, your baby becomes sleepy and we will take that opportunity. We can also take photos of her awake.

Should I and the rest of the family join in some of the photographs?

Thats' what I hope for! Some women worry that they don't look great after pregnancy and also because of those long nights of interrupted sleep. Don't worry because I always try to get the best angle that flatters my clients. My photo editing skills also help a lot. Those dark circles aound your eyes will be taken cared of. I will assure you that you will feel beautiful and proud of yourself once you see your photographs with your newborn. It's always nice if I can be able to capture photographs of your newborn with the whole family, including your husband. If your newborn has siblings, they should join too! Though of course, it's always your decision whom you want to join in some photos.
